I lost my mother, Liz Goulet Dubois, in August 2022. However, before her passing she had fully written and illustrated Duck and Cluck: I Like THIS Color! It’s the second story in her Duck and Cluck series. Though she wasn’t here to celebrate, my family and I had the honor to have a book launch event. It was held at one of her favorite bookstores: An Unlikely Story in Plainville, Massachusetts!

My dad and my sister, Audrey, gave a presentation on mom’s life and accomplishments. My mom had been super creative since childhood. Having worked in product design, illustration and writing, as well as raising her own family, there was a LOT to cover in this portion!

Next, me and my twin sister, Evelyn, read the books aloud (complete with props!) I took on the role of Duck, Evelyn as Cluck. Also included in this reading: special guest appearances by Audrey, and mom’s close friend, Lynda Mullaly Hunt!

Typically, a book launch would include a book signing. Instead, we had official Duck and Cluck stamps of approval. All copies of I Like THIS Color (as well as the first Duck and Cluck book, That Egg is MINE!) sold out at the event!

In all honesty, this was hard to do. To host a book launch knowing my mom wouldn’t be there to give a presentation, to sign her books or to say hi to everyone who came out, that was hard. It almost felt like another funeral in that way. Thank you so much to everyone who attended, who bought a copy of the book and remembered my mom!
You can learn more about who my mom was at her website (now run by my dad) as well as purchase her art in the shop. 50% of the proceeds go towards The Liz Goulet Dubois Scholarship. And of course, Duck and Cluck: I Like THIS Color! is available now!
